Can't Sleep
Haven't slept well at all since I went home for the holidays. My phone keeps ringing at weird hours with just a grindy noise, but luckily it's not waking me up as I'm already awake! Gonna head to the store tomorrow to see if they can diagnose my phone. Another weird story, I woke up this morning at 4AM and I was sitting in my car with all the windows rolled down. Not a clue why! Never sleptwalk before, must be all that collegiate stress getting to me!
Holidays are going great though, got a nice new book about trees I've been scouring for any info. I haven't heard from any of the seed packet people yet! Have you planted them? Have they started growing? Any idea what they ARE?! Ha!
Amateur Dendrologists, let's figure this out! Will be heading back up to school in a week or two as well, so I'll get to check the progress! Apparently it snowed pretty heavily, I hope the tree took that well!

Merry Seedmas
Exams are over! I'll be heading home for break so updates on the tree will be limited. Last note, checked it earlier. It snowed, but the tree was completely powder free, as was the rest of David's backyard. Kinda weird! Very dry back there. Anyway, the seed packets should have arrived! So let me know what you guys think of your seeds!

In the Mail!
My seed giveaway packets are in the mail! All you amateur botanists get ready, because a package is headed to your mailbox soon! If you are able to better identify the plant, please let me know! I got an extension on the deadline for my first proposal paper as Dr. Basire didn't show up for his meeting yesterday, and I'm still clueless! A friend of mine said it's starting to look sort of like a black Bristlecone Pine. Other than that deep red coloration. The bark is really smooth too, almost shiny. It's a pretty exciting plant.
I've been going over to David's less, which is why updates have been a bit less frequent. It's really warm at his house, which is nice in this winter weather, but I keep getting this strange deja vu feeling. Like there's a pit in my stomach or something. Probably just exam nerves, those have been stressing me out! I'll keep you all alert of any new developments, and watch your mail!

Happy Post Thanksgiving!
Anyway, onto the plants!
The Tree has leveled out in it's growth. It's a bit bigger than the last update but not noticeably so. It still hasn't sprouted any leaves, just gnarly black branches, seeds, and these strange little buds. Excited to see what they turn into! Seed giveaway should be ready soon, just got to get to a post office!

Seed Giveaway
Thanks to everyone who entered the seed giveaway! I'll be sending the seeds out soon, although with Thanksgiving this week I may be delayed a few days. But keep an eye out!
I've been trying to spend a lot of time at David's house recently. Mine is freezing, but his rental home is nice and toasty! The tree has sort of leveled out it seems. It's trunk is fairly thick but I didn't get to measure last night. The bark is mostly black and has this matte coloring, like light that hits it just gets sucked in. The red coloration is higher up now, a few inches over my head. Just one big spot, facing the house. Strangely, no leaves yet. Just bark and branches and a few of those seeds. Professor seemed to be quite pleased as well, so looks like an A is in my future!

Great Progress!
Hey tree fans! My mystery tree has made some excellent progress. It's about my height now, the trunk seems to be about 3 inches thick at the moment. There's a great reddish coloration on it about halfway up, but I still haven't been able to figure out what it is. The grass around it seems to have died though. Maybe the roots are sucking up too much for David's backyard's crappy soil, haha!
Professor is going to show me some rarer arbor books tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be able to find it in there! And if you want a free seed packet, don't forget to send me your address!
