Happy Post Thanksgiving!

Was able to sleep much better at home over the break, guess my old bed helped quite a bit! David had me come get him at a cemetary Sunday night. That was a tad weird, I dunno what's gotten into him.

Anyway, onto the plants!

The Tree has leveled out in it's growth. It's a bit bigger than the last update but not noticeably so. It still hasn't sprouted any leaves, just gnarly black branches, seeds, and these strange little buds. Excited to see what they turn into! Seed giveaway should be ready soon, just got to get to a post office!

Seed Giveaway

Thanks to everyone who entered the seed giveaway! I'll be sending the seeds out soon, although with Thanksgiving this week I may be delayed a few days. But keep an eye out!

I've been trying to spend a lot of time at David's house recently. Mine is freezing, but his rental home is nice and toasty! The tree has sort of leveled out it seems. It's trunk is fairly thick but I didn't get to measure last night. The bark is mostly black and has this matte coloring, like light that hits it just gets sucked in. The red coloration is higher up now, a few inches over my head. Just one big spot, facing the house. Strangely, no leaves yet. Just bark and branches and a few of those seeds. Professor seemed to be quite pleased as well, so looks like an A is in my future!

Great Progress!

Hey tree fans! My mystery tree has made some excellent progress. It's about my height now, the trunk seems to be about 3 inches thick at the moment. There's a great reddish coloration on it about halfway up, but I still haven't been able to figure out what it is. The grass around it seems to have died though. Maybe the roots are sucking up too much for David's backyard's crappy soil, haha!
Professor is going to show me some rarer arbor books tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be able to find it in there! And if you want a free seed packet, don't forget to send me your address!

Odd email

I received a strange email yesterday after putting up my flyer. Can anyone make heads or tails of it?

Good lord! It grew again!

So my sapling grew again! Now it has sprouted these strange seeds like I've never seen before on the sides of it's..trunk? It's about 2 inches thick at this point. Anyway, get your souvenir!

Ow.

I have an absolutely horrendous headache. Tossed and turned all night and had some pretty terrible dreams when I did get to sleep. But it's time to hit the grind now. I'll try to go check my sapling later, see if it's grown again.

Hasty Little Plant

I just got this blog running today, but I had planted the sapling a few days ago, on Saturday. Today I went out to take measurements and it's already grown a full inch! I haven't seen a sapling do this before. Fascinating! However, it's also moved about an inch to the left. Maybe the soil below shifted? Took some pictures, I'll keep documenting.

Ready to start!

My individual studies course for my botany major has me working with Dr. Basire. Given my interest in dendrology specifically (That's trees, for you not so plant inclined folks) he's having me care for a sapling and see if I can get it growing this semester. Once it's large enough I also have to identify it.  It's a tiny thing that he gave me, only grown a few inches out of it's pot. Going to move it to ground in a friend's backyard and see how it goes! Definitely excited to see it grow, I haven't been able to identify it yet, it's little more than a black stick, but there does appear to be a little spot of red. Maybe just a blemish?

Anyway, I've decided to start this blog to keep an eye on it and keep my progress in the whole tree studying thing going. So if you're interested, check back!
